Customer Reviews & Comments

I can’t recommend Walk Across Scotland highly enough. Ross arranged the perfect West Highland Way itinerary for the 4 of us; a mixture of hotel, guest house and youth hostel. Al the accommodation was ideally suited along the route. The baggage transfers went smoothly. He provided us with all the information we needed and was always happy to deal with our questions. When 2 of our group were forced to pull out at a late stage, I was very impressed with the way he dealt with it. Do the WHW! it’s highly enjoyable from start to finish.

Thank you Ross and WAS for an excellently organised trip along the WHW my brother and I had an amazing week and having our laugage transferred and waiting for us at the end of each day was brilliant. The b&b at Bridge of Orchy (stance cottage, James and Jackie Milliar) get top marks from me and I would highly recommend them to family and friends traveling their way. I loved the whole trip and would recommend Ross and WAS team to anyone thinking of doing any walk across Scotland.
Will definitely use this company again for walks in the future.
— Susan, Scotland
We booked the West Highland Way hike through Walk Across Scotland and we could not be happier with the service we received. Ross was extremely helpful and responsive before the trip, helping us with every question we had. The walk itself went perfectly smoothly, the luggage transfer was always on time and the accommodation booked by Ross was of a very high standard. We are definitely coming back to Scotland for our future hiking holidays and we’ll surely use the services of Walk Across Scotland again.

Ross, thank you for assistance in planning and booking our holiday. We had a great time and believe this walk is the perfect way to see and experience Scotland. I would recommend this walk to anyone with a reasonable standard of walking fitness. Starting in the forests in the south and then moving with the season across the moors was fabulous and we have some amazing photos; with rain and sunshine. On arriving each day at our accommodation point we were consistently and pleasantly surprised by the standard of accommodation and the ease with which we were welcomed and booked in.

Completely satisfied. The process of booking was very simple and easy. Ross accommodated the few additional requests I made efficiently and quickly. The information provided was detailed. The baggage transfer service provided was 100% efficient - our bags were always waiting for us on arrival and the accommodation could not be faulted. I would have no hesitation in recommending Walk Across Scotland to friends and family and would definitely use the Company again. A big thank you to Ross. We had a wonderful time - sore feet excluded - lots of laughs, beautiful scenery and ....... the sun shone!

I was very pleased with the service from WAS. Everything from booking, accomodation, information pack and pick up in Perth. Walking coast to coast gives you a grasp and feel of the variety of landscape and scenery that Scotland offers. From farmland, woodlands, the moores and munro’s. Glencoe is always fascinating and have a you get a “feel” to it - knowing the history of the area. In short, I had pleasant walk and would recommend WAS to anyone interested.

Since most travelling organisations are focused on walkers, it was very helpful for us that Ross Mackey of Walk Across Scotland has ran the West Highland Way himself. His experiences helped us and he was able to select the accommodations which most suited our preferences. The run through the beautiful Highlands was a lifetime experience and we advice other trail runners to consider running one of the footpaths in Scotland. For sure Ross would be a great contact to help you organise such a trail running holiday. - May 2015

We had a great walking holiday, and a carefree booking thanks to WAS. We were able to get a custom holiday package that suited our wishes, and the whole process was very straightforward. WAS was always very quick to respond to our e-mails, and provided a great overall service. - May 2015

“Many thanks to Ross and the WAS team for organising our excellent adventure along the West Highland Way over the Easter weekend. I had walked parts of it before but never attempted the full distance. It was a fantastic experience which was made all the more enjoyable by not having to worry about transport, accommodation and other support. All my needs were met and expectations surpassed.

The scenery was absolutely stunning, helped by the fantastic weather (not sure if WAS organised this as well), and the company was even better. I have no complaints at all (apart from sore feet). - April 2014

The West Highland Way challenge Ross (from walk across Scotland) organised was one of the best experiences in my life. If you want wild, beautiful scenery, fresh air and a real challenge I recommend trying to tackle the West Highland way in three days. If you don’t want that specific challenge then walking the way from 6 to 9 days would be perfect. The route itself is 96 miles long from Fort William to Milngavie or the other way depending on your preference. There are various stopping points bars, hotels B&Bs and youth hostels, all of the service I received from every stop was excellent and good value! The scenery around Fort William and Loch Lomond will rival anything you have seen on TV or in person, I promise.

I’d just like to take a minute to thank Ross for his effort in organising the walk. The planning was evidently meticulous, resulting in everyone completing the Way in relative comfort. If Ross was planning arctic trips I know I’d enjoy it. It goes to show that even though the challenge was unique in terms of set up for my audience, he got the detail right. And as ridiculous as it sounds I’ve even arranged to do it all over again later this year.

August 2014 - Searching the web, I was pleasantly surprised to find WAS, who was willing to work with a solo hiker in putting together an itinerary for the WHW. Other companies required a minimum of two travellers. The rate that WAS quoted was very competitive, and after completing the WHW, I have to say that all arrangements worked as planned and as promised. Ross answered all questions I had in a very timely manner, and even when I was on the trail I could e-mail, call, or txt, and I would get a reply back rather quickly. I am one very satisfied customer who would arrange another trekking holiday with WAS without reservations. Ross, I can’t think of anything else you could have done in such short notice in putting together my trip. Thanks!

September 2014 - I booked the six-day WHW trip via Walk Across Scotland. After exchanging some mails with Ross about my specific travelling-arrangements, I was flying in from Belgium into Edinburgh. After needing further info on the trains and how to get in Milngavie, I asked him to create a proposed itinerary. His proposal included a mix from B&Bs, Hotels and a bunkhouse. After paying the deposit, I received the Information pack which contained a detail map, the accommodation summary and a lot of useful information about the various places we would visit.

The trip was great, my son & myself had a fantastic experience, we just had to walk, all the rest was well organized, the luggage was picked up in the morning and delivered at the next stop; it went smoothly!

The walk is really something I can recommend, although do not underestimate it, especially if you want to do it in 6 days !
