Overview

Trek the magical Isle of Skye over routes that are truly spectacular, involving a rich blend of coastal paths and high level passes.

The EasyWays Skye Tour takes you to the best parts of this beautiful island offering a selection of routes over ancient landscapes that reflect the rich heritage of the island.

Our base for the tour is first located in Broadford where we explore the south and west of the island beginning at Ardvasar walking down to the most southerly point at Sleat with its picturesque lighthouse and remote sandy bay before we encounter  remote Glasnakille and Elgol and a dramatic walk alongside Loch Scavaig with views of Seal Island and the impressive Cuillin Mountains all around.

Our walk is completed by a descent into Glen Sligachan to end at the Sligachan Hotel where true Scottish Hospitality awaits in the form of a choice over 100 whiskies.

An option is available here to cross Loch Scavaig by small ferry to reduce the walk distance.

We then transfer our base to Portree where we discover the crystal clear water of the Fairy Pools on the River Brittle, the mighty Old Man of Storr and the Quiraing in the northern Trotternish Ridge.

SUGGESTED ITINERARY

This itinerary for the Skye tour is very flexible, including the option to utilise public transport on the island to access each walk, or by pre-arranged private transfers, which we can organise as part of the tour. You can stay as long as you like at any of the overnight stops, or skip them altogether. Please let us know in the enquiry form if you would like more information on alternative itineraries, including extra or fewer nights in Broadford and Portree, or perhaps additional nights at wonderful locations such as Elgol or Sligachan.

WALK 1: POINT OF SLEAT

DISTANCE: 10.80 MILES / 17.30 KM

Morning bus from Broadford to the south of the island for a day walk beginning at Armadale Ferry.  The walk to the lighthouse at the southernmost point of Skye offers views to the islands of Eigg and Rum. A delightful detour to a lovely sandy beach at Camas Daraich is recommended before your return journey by late afternoon public bus.

Please check that the bus departure and return times are as published in the provided Skye Timetable.

WALK 2: SUISNISH AND BORERAIG

DISTANCE: 11.25 MILES / 18.00 KM

A mainly coastal walk, with cliffs, beaches and two abandoned villages – in remote countryside, with great views of the Cuillin and the mainland mountains.

Leave Broadford at a time to suit or by early public bus signposted Elgol and alight en-route just beyond Swordale House B&B.  Take a left turn on the track heading south to begin the circular route that will eventually return to the single track B8083 road where you can walk back to Broadford or time your journey to coincide with the return public bus timetable.

WALK 3: ELGOL TO SLIGACHAN (COAST TO COAST)

DISTANCE: 11.00 MILES / 17.6KM

This morning take the early public bus to Elgol. Ask the driver to stop off at Glasnakillie Peninsula overlooking Loch Slapin, to walk the additional 3 km over to Elgol, if time permits before beginning a dramatic walk alongside Loch Scavaig with the impressive Black Cuillin Mountains to the west. The underfoot is on mainly good track with spectacular views all around before reaching Loch Coruisk before descending into Glen Sligachan to end at the iconic Sligachan Hotel.

An optional extra is to take the Bella Jane boat trip from Elgol across Loch Scavaig with a hillside ascent to meet up with the track leading through the Cuillins and onwards to Sligachan. It is best to book this boat trip in advance by phone or email. On arrival in Sligachan, telephone to request your pre-arranged transfer to Portree to continue your tour in the north of the island.

WALK 4: SLIGACHAN TO FAIRY POOLS

DISTANCE: 11.00 MILES / 17.6 KM

Located towards the south–west of Portree take an early morning public bus to Sligachan Hotel for this walk option to and from the Fairy Pools on the River Brittle. Spend some time among the waterfalls and crystal clear pools (swimming is possible in summer).  An alternative return is by Carbost, on single track road through Glen Brittle north with option to visit the Talisker Distillery (Guided Tour £20.00 per person, can be booked in advance) before taking the late afternoon bus back to Portree to end a fantastic day.

STAGE 5: OLD MAN OF STORR & THE QUIRAING

DISTANCE: 12.00 MILES / 20 KM

Early start for Quiraing – visit the amazing rock formations before continuing by afternoon bus to Torvaig to climb the Old Man of Storr, one of a remarkable set of pinnacles on Skye. Overnight Portree.
